Expert Cancer Treatment and Support
Like people, pets can develop cancer at any stage of life. Our clinic provides comprehensive oncology support designed to guide pets and their owners through diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Some cancers can be treated effectively with surgery alone, while others may benefit from chemotherapy or a combination of therapies.
Although we are not board-certified oncologists, our team has extensive experience administering chemotherapy for lymphoma and select cancers. Not every cancer responds to chemotherapy, so we evaluate each case individually to determine the most effective treatment plan for your pet.
We proudly serve families seeking compassionate, supportive care for pets with cancer, helping pets maintain comfort and quality of life throughout treatment.
Diagnosis and Treatment Planning
- Bloodwork and lab tests to assess overall health
- Imaging such as X-rays or ultrasound to identify tumors
- Biopsies or cytology to determine the type and grade of cancer
Chemotherapy and Supportive Care
Chemotherapy is often well-tolerated by pets, and most experience only minor side effects. Common reactions include mild nausea or diarrhea, while hair loss is rare. Our team can pre-treat pets with medications to reduce gastrointestinal upset and ensure comfort throughout therapy.
Chemotherapy is carefully administered to maximize effectiveness while preserving your pet’s quality of life. Pets are often able to maintain normal activity levels and enjoy their daily routines during treatment.
Surgical Oncology
Surgery may be a primary treatment for certain tumors or used in combination with other therapies. Our team performs surgical removal of cancerous masses when appropriate, aiming for complete excision while minimizing recovery time.
Post-surgical monitoring and supportive care help manage pain, prevent infection, and promote healing. In cases requiring specialized surgical techniques, we coordinate with veterinary surgeons to provide the most advanced care possible.
Palliative and Quality-of-Life Support
- Pain management using safe, effective medications
- Nutritional support and appetite stimulation
- Mobility aids or therapy for joint and muscle support
- Environmental adjustments to reduce stress and improve comfort
Advanced Care and Specialist Referrals
Some cancers require therapies beyond what can be provided in a general practice, such as radiation therapy or specialized surgical procedures. In these cases, we refer pets to veterinary teaching hospitals or board-certified specialists to ensure access to advanced treatment options. We work closely with referral partners to coordinate care, communicate updates, and support both pets and owners throughout the treatment process.
